BirdTouch Water Dispenser™ Instructions

Although we no longer manufacture these drinkers, there is a resale value as there is a waiting list for used drinkers. Please contact Marjorie Ann, Inc. (Jaclyn Dugan) if you would like to get in touch with interested parties. (888) 373-7401.

With the BIRDTOUCH Water DispenserTM you will never have food and droppings in your parrot's drinking water again. And you will certainly appreciate having the many hours that would have been spent cleaning up spills and water bowls for more pleasant pursuits.

Installation

  1. Remove the two brass finger nuts and the cage brackets.
  2. Remove the stainless nuts and the next aluminum mounting plates.
  3. Determine the best location for the BIRDTOUCHTM. It should be low enough to the floor so that your bird can reach the drinker or near a perch for the same reason. It can be placed on a side of the cage that has vertical or horizontal bars or wires or both. It may be necessary to cut openings in small mesh cage wire.
  4. Hold a mounting plate with the stainless screws inside the cage at the appropriate place with the screw extended through the bars or wire. Choose any of the three holes in the plate. It is best to span two cage bars if you can.
  5. Slide the other mounting plate over the screw and apply the stainless nut but not tightened, and test the position by holding the BIRDTOUCHTM in place.
  6. Tighten the stainless nuts snugly but do not distort the plates.
  7. Position the BIRDTOUCHTM on the mounting screw and install the other mounting plate. It might be necessary to reposition the first set a bit to accommodate the second set. Place the BIRDTOUCHTM over the mounting screws and secure with the brass finger nuts. YOU'RE READY.
  8. Fill the reservoir with pure water and test by pressing the drinker rod in any direction ( it will take a few seconds to prime).

Training
Using a pencil, a piece of wire, or similar helper, reach into the cage and activate the drinker rod so that water is visible in the spout. Do this several times a day until you observe your bird drinking. It is helpful to place the bird's usual drinking bowl as near the BIRDTOUCHTM as possible to help with the association (they are much more observant and intelligent than we think). After the first day, remove the bowl and give the bird the opportunity to switch over to the BIRDTOUCHTM . If you do not see the bird drinking, replace the bowl for a brief time and repeat the training. Even very stubborn birds will switch in a few days. Do not be afraid to remove the water bowl for 24 hours at a time. If you have any problems, please call CHINA PRAIRIE for help.

Waste Water
Remove the waste water retrieval unit and clean it ONCE A DAY.

Cleaning
Since the BIRDTOUCHTM is completely closed and opaque and it is impossible for food to feed back into the reservoir (unlike drinking bottles), daily cleaning is not necessary. We recommend that the unit be removed (simply by unscrewing the finger nuts) and taken to the sink for cleaning once a week. It may also be placed in your dishwasher face down with the lid open. Please do not use any toxic disinfectant as residues will accumulate with time. Request test studies on any disinfection product claiming to be non-toxic. We recommend soap and water with thorough rinsing, and FRESH StabilizerTM.
